How Automated Evaluations Might Help Decide Upon Rankings for Search Results at Google

A number of years back, I remember being humbled by a homework assignment crayon drawing by a friend’s son which listed what he was thankful for, and included his parents, his sister, and shoes that Thanksgiving. We take so much for granted that we should be thankful that we have. A few friends and I had gathered over my friend’s house, and we were all knocked somewhat silent by the picture when he proudly showed it off to his father. Thank you to everyone who stops by here to read, to learn, to share, and to add to the discussion. Thank you too, for the chance to share the things I find and the things that I learn from you all.

4 most important - Google ranking algorithm

Recently Google made around 10 changes to it's ranking algorithm. But out of these here I am discussing 4 that are most important for webmasters and website owners.

1. Google seem to be putting more emphasis to links from the actual content body of the page than the header, side navigation or footer links.

2. Queries that need fresh results impact around 6-10% of the search results to a noticeable degree and the business websites that have news in their content will get benefit from this.

3. Google seems to be paying more attention to the page content than the backlinks. They also say they are de-emphasizing the "exact anchor text" backlinks. This means you should look at altering your "exact anchor text" approach if you have not already done so.

4. Google will tend to rank official websites even higher on Google's result page. And this change is intended to provide the users with more relevant and authoritative results.

eLegacy understands that SEO should be applied keeping in mind the functioning of the search engines and the pattern of search followed by the users. Therefore, we apply methods for clients that will make the website friendly for the users and the search engines and rank them high for their chosen keywords.

What is new in Google's ranking algorithm?

Last week, Google's Matt Cutts published a list of 10 recent ranking algorithm changes in an official Google blog. Do these changes affect your website rankings? Do you have to adjust your web pages for the new algorithm?

What is new in Google's ranking algorithm?

Here's the official list:

1. For queries in languages where limited web content is available (for example Hind or Icelandic), Google will translate relevant English web pages and display the translated titles directly below the English titles in the search results.

2. The snippets on the search result page now show more page content and less header/menu content.

3. Google finds that boilerplate links with duplicated anchor text are not as relevant, so they are putting less emphasis on these. The result is more relevant titles that are specific to the page’s content.

4. Autocomplete predictions in Russian have been improved.

5. People who are searching for software applications will see more rich snippets, like cost and user reviews, within their search results.

6. Google retired a signal in Image Search related to images that had references from multiple documents on the web.

7. Some queries get fresher results. This change impacts around 6-10% of search results to a noticeable degree and better determines the appropriate level of freshness for a given query.

8. Google adjusted how they attempt to determine which pages are official. This will tend to rank official websites even higher on Google's result page.

9. Date-restricted queries have been improved to ensure that users get the results that are most relevant for the date range that they specify.

10. Autocomplete predictions for Hebrew, Russian and Arabic have been improved.

Matt Cutts does not go into detail. The most important change seems to be that boilerplate links with duplicated anchor text are not as relevant as before.

This probably affects the texts in your website navigation most. If the navigation text was "green widgets" before, this would give the linked page a boost for the term "green widgets". Matt Cutts says that this has changed.

How do you have to change your web pages?

Google says that you shouldn't focus on the ranking factors above:

"Before you go wild tuning your anchor text or thinking about your web presence for Icelandic users, please remember that this is only a sampling of the hundreds of changes we make to our search algorithms in a given year, and even these changes may not work precisely as you’d imagine."

Google uses many different elements to specify the position of your web pages on the search result pages. If you want to be on the safe side, analyze your web pages with IBP's Top 10 Optimizer.

The Top 10 Optimizer analyzes all important elements that determine the position of your web pages and it also tells you how to adjust your pages so that they get the best possible rankings.

Google is continually improving the ranking algorithms. If you want to keep your rankings, and if you want to get better rankings, regularly check your web pages to make sure that they are compliant to Google's latest ranking algorithm.

Google+ getting better day by day!

Google+ getting better day by day!

Google plus announces it face detection feature. Google plus is the fastest growing social network in present era and is considered the future of social networking my many experts. Google plus is improving its store in the fight with competitors like Facebook and Twitter. Google’s newest addition in its depot is: ‘Face Detection’. This technology allows users to tag the photos quicker and easier than before, without manually entering the identity for every individual and individual pictures.

When any user upload and chooses to publish their entire photo album, the new face detection feature will display all the faces found in that album in one place. Then grouping all photos according to the persons that appear in them will be much easier and then tag them with their respective name and the email will be ready within few keystrokes. Users can access this new feature from three different ways.

1st - Create an album from the sharebox or add photos to an existing album. Once the upload is successfully complete, Google will recognize the faces and the tagging feature will appear.
2nd - Add photos from sharebox. Follow the same steps and tag people when the option appears.
3rd - Tag an entire album using button just above the photo previews.

Don’t worry Google respect the people’s right to privacy. If any user or your friend don’t want to get themselves tag in photos Google will inform every tagged person in the album after the tagging is complete so that users can decide if they approve the tagging or not.

Initially, Google provided face detection features with Picasa, but later on, this feature was renamed to Google Photos. To gear up for more enhancements, Google acquired PittPatt, and its copyrights for the technology used in face detection and live tracking. So, now whatever Google have in its inventory is fully accessible for Google + users to relish.

Yahoo Site Explorer shut downs and merged with Bing Webmaster Tool

Yahooo Site Explorer shut down on November 21, 2011. They said:

'As we announced in July, Bing Webmaster Tools are supporting the Yahoo! Site Explorer community. Webmasters should now be using the Bing Webmaster Tools to ensure that their websites continue to get high quality organic search traffic from Bing and Yahoo!.
Since the middle of August 2011, the Bing Webmaster Tools have also been integrating traffic data from Yahoo! into its reports. Please check out the Bing Webmaster blog post for more information.

We have been making great progress in transitioning organic search results to the Microsoft search platform in various markets, as part of the Yahoo! and Microsoft Search Alliance. The Site Explorer website will continue to be available until organic results are completely transitioned to the Microsoft Search platform in all markets (expected to be completed by the end of the year). Webmasters may continue to use the Site Explorer website and all its services until then.

As previously announced, the SiteExplorer YDN API’s are no longer available as of September 15, 2011. We thank all the YDN developer community who used and supported the APIs.

For FAQ’s please refer to Microsoft Webmaster Tools to support Yahoo! Site Explorer Community'

Don't be surprise with the Yahoo's decision on closing down it's site explorer. Yahoo announced publicly that it would happen sooner or later this year but since November 21st was the last day for site explorer but it is some what of a kinda shocker that it has finally happened for all webmasters. Some webmasters said: "It is basically the last nail in the coffin for Yahoo Search."

Site Explorer was launched in 2005 as one of Tim Mayer's babys at Yahoo and was adored by all webmasters. I personally used it frequently for business and personal reasons and I'm very sad to see it saying goodbye to us, and I am sure it upsets Tim and team a bit more. But you can still experience it features in Bing webmaster tool as Yahoo site explorer merged with Bing webmaster tool to give much better results and I and other webmaster hope that It will bring out new opportunities in Search Industries and Challenge BigG.
